Supported browsers for web push

Firepush web push notifications work on all major browsers and devices. Push notifications are powered by Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and the Web Push standard.

Desktop browsers

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Opera
  • Safari (macOS)

Mobile devices

  • Android — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, and Samsung Internet all support push notifications
  • iOS (iPhone & iPad) — supported on Safari from iOS 16.4 and later. The customer needs to add your store to their Home Screen first, then they can subscribe to push notifications. Learn more about iOS push notifications

Not supported

  • iOS versions older than 16.4
  • In-app browsers (e.g. links opened inside Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok apps). Learn how to fix this issue

Good to know

  • Your Shopify store must have SSL enabled (all Shopify stores have this by default) for push notifications to work
  • The vast majority of your desktop and Android visitors will be able to receive push notifications without any extra steps
  • Modern browsers use quieter permission prompts. Learn how Firepush works around this to help you collect more subscribers
