Abandoned cart SMS

Abandoned cart SMS messages automatically remind customers to complete their purchase after they leave items in their cart. SMS has a very high open rate, making it one of the most effective ways to recover abandoned carts.

How it works

When a customer adds items to their cart, enters their phone number at checkout, and leaves without completing the purchase, Firepush automatically sends a sequence of up to 3 SMS reminders:

  1. First reminder — 1 hour after cart abandonment (default)
  2. Second reminder — 24 hours after cart abandonment (default)
  3. Third reminder — 72 hours after cart abandonment (default)

Smart order detection

If a customer completes their purchase, Firepush automatically cancels any pending reminders. Your customers will never receive an abandoned cart SMS after they have already bought.

Message personalization

Abandoned cart SMS messages can include:

  • [name] — the customer's first name
  • [product] — the product name from their cart
  • [price] — the cart total
  • [shop] — your store name
  • [redirectToURL] — a link back to the customer's abandoned checkout

How to set up

  1. Go to the SMS messages section in your Firepush dashboard
  2. Enable the Abandoned cart SMS automations
  3. Customize the message text and timing for each reminder
  4. Save your settings

Tips

  • Include an incentive like a discount code or free shipping to encourage the purchase
  • Use the countdown timer feature to add a visual countdown with auto-applied discount codes
  • Keep messages short — shorter SMS costs less and fits in a single segment
  • The first reminder (1 hour) typically has the highest conversion rate
