How to enable SMS messaging

SMS is not enabled by default when you install Firepush. Before you can send SMS campaigns or automations, you need to complete a compliance review. This process ensures your store meets TCPA requirements for SMS marketing.

Step 1: Add SMS consent to your checkout

You must add an SMS consent checkbox to your Shopify checkout. The checkbox must include clear language such as:

"I agree to receive promotional SMS messages from [Store Name]. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe."

This is a legal requirement — you cannot send marketing SMS without explicit consent from the customer.

Step 2: Update your privacy policy

Your store's privacy policy should mention that you collect phone numbers for SMS marketing purposes and explain how customers can opt out. Learn how to update your legal documentation

Step 3: Submit for review

Contact Firepush support through the live chat in your dashboard and provide:

  • A screenshot of your checkout showing the SMS consent checkbox
  • The exact consent language you are using
  • A link to your privacy policy
  • Confirmation that your store does not sell age-restricted products

Our team will review your setup and enable SMS for your account. This is typically done within business hours (UTC).

Step 4: Upgrade to a paid plan

SMS is only available on Basic and Pro plans. If you are on the Free plan, you will need to upgrade before you can use SMS.

Step 5: Purchase SMS credits

SMS works on a pay-as-you-go basis. Purchase SMS credits in the Plans section of your Firepush dashboard. Credits are purchased in dollar amounts (e.g. $10, $25, $50, $100, etc.) and the cost per SMS varies by destination country. Learn more about SMS pricing and how SMS credits work

Important rules

  • SMS marketing is not permitted for age-restricted products (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, firearms, adult content)
  • All SMS messages must include an unsubscribe option (Reply STOP)
  • Messages cannot be sent before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM in the recipient's local time
  • Having a phone number from a customer does not equal consent — the customer must explicitly opt in
