Welcome SMS
The welcome SMS is sent automatically to new customers right after they sign up to your store with SMS marketing consent. It is your first SMS touchpoint with a new customer, a great opportunity to make a good impression and encourage their first purchase.
How it works
When a new customer is created in your Shopify store, Shopify sends a webhook to Firepush. If the customer has opted in to SMS marketing and provided a valid phone number, Firepush instantly sends them a welcome SMS with your customized message.
- A new customer signs up on your store (at checkout, via a sign-up form, or by creating an account)
- The customer opts in to SMS marketing and provides a valid phone number
- Shopify creates the customer and notifies Firepush via webhook
- Firepush instantly sends the welcome SMS with your customized message
Welcome messages are only sent once per customer. If an existing customer returns, they will not receive a duplicate welcome SMS.
Message personalization
Welcome SMS messages can include:
- [name] - the customer's first name
- [shop] - your store name
- [redirectToURL] - a link to your store, a landing page, or a special offer

Requirements
- The customer must have provided a phone number
- The customer must have SMS marketing consent
- SMS must be enabled on your Firepush account (Basic or Pro plan)
How to set up
- Go to the SMS messages section in your Firepush dashboard
- Enable the Welcome SMS automation
- Customize the message text
- Save your settings
No additional configuration is needed. Welcome SMS messages are triggered automatically by the Shopify customer create webhook.
Tips
- Use the welcome SMS to offer a discount code or free shipping to encourage the first purchase
- Add a countdown timer with a limited-time discount to drive urgency
- Keep the message short to minimize SMS costs and fit in a single segment
- Keep the tone warm and on-brand
