To comply with SMS marketing regulations, your store needs proper legal documentation. This is reviewed as part of the SMS enablement process.
Privacy policy
Your privacy policy should include a section covering SMS marketing:
- That you collect phone numbers for marketing purposes
- How phone numbers are used (sending promotional and transactional SMS)
- That a third-party service (Firepush) is used for messaging
- How customers can opt out (reply STOP)
- How customers can request data deletion
Terms of service
Your terms of service should include:
- The types of messages customers may receive (promotional SMS, order updates)
- Message frequency information (e.g. "message frequency varies")
- That message and data rates may apply
- How to unsubscribe (reply STOP to any message)
- That consent is not a condition of purchase
Where to update
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Policies to edit your privacy policy and terms of service. Make sure the updated pages are accessible from your store footer.
What Firepush reviews
When you request SMS enablement, our team checks:
- Your checkout consent checkbox and language
- Your privacy policy covers SMS marketing
- Your terms of service include SMS messaging terms
