How to create effective SMS campaigns

SMS marketing has some of the highest open rates of any channel. Follow these best practices to get the most from your campaigns.

1. Keep it short

A single SMS segment is 160 characters. If your message exceeds this, it will be split into multiple segments — each billed separately. Aim to keep your campaign message within one segment to minimize cost. Learn how SMS credits work

2. Include a clear call to action

Every SMS should have a purpose. Tell your customer exactly what to do — shop a sale, use a discount code, check out a new product. Include a link so they can act immediately.

3. Use your store name

Use the [shop] variable so customers immediately know who the message is from. This builds trust and improves open rates. Learn more about message variables

4. Stick to plain text characters

Firepush uses GSM 7-bit encoding for SMS. Special characters and emojis are automatically removed before sending. Stick to standard letters, numbers, and basic punctuation to ensure your message looks exactly as intended.

5. Time it right

Firepush will not deliver SMS before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM in the recipient's local time. Schedule your campaigns during peak shopping hours for the best results. Learn about best timings for SMS

6. Add urgency

Limited-time offers and countdown timers drive faster action. Pair your SMS campaign with a countdown timer to create urgency on your store.

7. Target the right audience

Use customer segments to send relevant messages to specific groups. This improves engagement and reduces wasted SMS credits.
