What is the countdown timer?

The countdown timer is a banner that appears on your store when a customer receives a push notification or SMS message from one of your automations or campaigns. It creates urgency by showing a ticking timer alongside a discount code, encouraging the customer to act quickly.

How it works

1. A customer receives a push notification or SMS from one of your automations or campaigns
2. When they click through to your store, a countdown banner appears at the top or bottom of the page
3. The banner displays your message, a discount code, and a timer counting down
4. When the customer clicks the button, the discount code is automatically applied at checkout
5. When the timer expires, the banner disappears

How to create and use discount codes

Important: Discount codes must be created directly in Shopify, not in Firepush. This ensures proper compliance with Shopify's discount policies.

Step 1: Create a discount in Shopify

1. Go to your Shopify admin → Discounts
2. Click Create discount
3. Choose your discount type (Amount off, Percentage off, Free shipping, etc.)
4. Set your discount code, value, and conditions
5. Save the discount

Step 2: Sync discount codes to Firepush

1. In Firepush, go to any automation or campaign that uses the countdown timer
2. Open the Countdown tab
3. Click "Sync from Shopify" to load your discount codes
4. Select the discount code from the dropdown

How auto-apply works

When a customer clicks the countdown banner button, the discount code is automatically added to their cart and applied at checkout. They don't need to manually enter the code — it just works!

What you can customize

Settings (unique per automation/campaign):

• Discount code — select from your synced Shopify discount codes
• Message — the text shown on the banner (supports the [code] variable for the discount code). Learn more about message variables
• Button text — the call-to-action button label (e.g., "Apply discount", "Shop now")
• Duration — how long the timer runs (5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes)
• Position — top or bottom of the page

Tips for success

• Use countdown timers with abandoned cart and promotional messages for maximum effect
• Shorter durations (5–10 minutes) create stronger urgency
• Make sure the discount code you select is currently active in Shopify
• Keep your countdown message short and compelling (e.g., "Hurry! Your 20% off expires in [code]")
• Test the countdown banner on your store to ensure it displays correctly
• Use the [code] variable in your message to dynamically show the discount code

Troubleshooting

Discount codes not showing? Click "Sync from Shopify" to refresh your discount codes list.

Countdown banner not appearing? Make sure the countdown timer is enabled in your automation/campaign settings.

Discount not applying at checkout? Verify the discount code is active in your Shopify admin and hasn't expired.
